It is not always the father who is doubted as the legitamate parents. Sometimes the mother claims to be a parent when in fact they are not. They may do this for various reasons ranging from Immigration benefits to simply stealing babies in the worst cases and passing them off as their own. Most of the time it is the children themselves who start these tests, but can often be the Courts or Police.
Maternity DNA tests use the exact same procedure are the paternity tests, so there should be no difference in the price charged by the company. Here are the most common reasons for testing;
- When an adopted child and an adoptive mother are reunited after years of separation and would like to confirm their biological relationship
- When a parent wishes to confirm that the child is theirs and born in the UK to help obtain a British passport.
- When a mother who conceived a child through in vitro fertilisation would like to confirm that the proper embryo was implanted into her uterus
- When a family or hospital staff person fears that baby switching has mistakenly occurred in the hospital nursery
